Three Easy Safety Tips for Preventing a Bounce House Accident

1. Keep an eye on the weather!

Prior to renting or setting up your bounce house, check the weather forecast to see if there is wind or severe weather in the forecast. Keep an eye out for wind alerts produced by the National Weather Service (High Wind Watch, Wind Advisory, and High Wind Warning).

If there is a sudden gust of wind or severe weather occurring, quickly evacuate the bounce house and follow proper deflating procedures.

2. Set up the bounce house correctly!

  1. Choose a location that is clear of rocks, gravel, and other debris. If the location has these sharp items, put down a tarp.
  2. Anchor the bounce house around the bottom edge of the device by attaching stakes using either clips or rope. If stakes cannot be used, you MUST use an alternative method such as sandbags.
  3. Attach the blower to the bounce house. Check all electrical outlets, and turn the blower on. Carefully watch the bounce house inflate, and check for proper inflation.

3. Always have an adult watching!

Sudden wind gusts or severe weather can quickly occur, therefore, it is important for an adult to stay close to the bounce house.

Make sure the adult is keeping an eye on the children, while ensuring they are following the guidelines outlined on the bounce house.

If the renting company does not provide an adult operator, let the adults take shifts watching the bounce house and the children inside.
*NOTE: These are only a few things that you can do to protect your family from bounce house injuries. We have prioritized the weather in our messaging, because there is a lack of this information in other materials relating to the topic. There are numerous injuries not involving weather, so please see the links below for more information on safety regarding bounce houses.
